Where we Work
We are volunteers from various professional backgrounds, majorly health, from Homa Bay County, Kenya, who have gone the extra mile to initiate a project to tackle interconnected complex health and development challenges in the community

About
The Healthy Woman Project, in Homa Bay County, Kenya, is a pioneering grassroots initiative empowering women and girls through integrated health and nutrition services. Originally focused on NCD prevention among women living with HIV, it now holistically addresses SRHR, maternal and newborn health, mental health, financial literacy and economic empowerment. Key strategies include monthly health education, agri-nutrition and physical activity training, community partnerships, male involvement, community-facility referrals. The project tackles gender inequalities, promotes dietary diversity, and links SRHR, MNH, HIV and NCD care, impacting over 13,000 people. It has earned major recognition, winning the WHO NCD Lab award, the Africa Foods Awards Sustainability Initiative of the Year, and the Quality Healthcare Kenyan Health Professional Achievement Awards.
Despite being self-funded and relying on local support and partnerships, this initiative has improved nutrition, food security, and economic status for several households. The project currently benefits the group members, with a ripple effect on the catchment population. We have the potential to expand further.
